After Lombok is considered "the Bali 10 years ago" - just as beautiful, but significantly fewer tourists - I did not want to miss this island in any case. Since I get seasick easily, I opted for a flight from Bali to Lombok - it was I think with only 40 minutes flight time the shortest flight I ever had.
The island itself is similar in size to Bali, but you can get from A to B much quicker as there is much less traffic on the island. A big difference to Bali is that about 85% of the inhabitants are Muslim (on Bali Hinduism dominates). Besides tourism, which is gaining in importance, the cultivation of rice, coffee, tobacco and cotton is present all over the island.
I have chosen my accommodation in Senggigi, on the west coast of the island and can therefore give you an insight into what you can do here.
SUP at Senggigi Beach
Finally, the first opportunity since the beginning of my trip for Stand Up Paddling! Walking on the beach of Senggigi I saw that the conditions in the bay are quite calm. So I asked around to see if there was an opportunity to SUP here. And indeed, a man then came to me with a SUP (I do not know from where he conjured it 😊). Here you must not be shy to bargain, because the prices they ask are extremely high at first. After we had then agreed on a price, it went off and I paddled along the coast. It was nice to paddle between the fishing boats and to see the coast from a different perspective.
Here on the beach were only isolated tourists. A few locals were just bathing and waved to me, otherwise I had this section of beach all to myself.
During a walk on the beach, I happened to pass by the Lombok Beach Club. After my question for coffee was answered in the affirmative, I spontaneously decided to "stop in" here. I like the concept of this place and I find it especially ideal for people who do not have a hotel directly on the beach. The place offers normal tables, chill lounges or sun loungers, the use of a towel as well as showers and a small pool on a beautiful manicured grounds with relaxing background music. For having such a nice and cozy place by the sea, you don't pay a fixed fee, just the consumption of food or drinks. There is no minimum consumption and you can stay as long as you want. The staff is extremely nice and helpful (from there I got a super tip for a tour operator here on the island, which in my opinion has quite fair prices and good service compared to others).
Since on this island for me until now scarce - in this restaurant I drank a decidedly good coffee - I can recommend this beautiful place 100% 😊
Sunset at Malaka Cliff
Only a few minutes drive from Senggigi is the Malaka Cliff. From here you have a great view over Malaka beach and the bay around. At the parking lot there is a small stand with cold drinks and snacks.
From the parking lot you can only walk a small short path forward towards the sea to have an even better view of the bay and the sunset. A very nice place to stay 😊
