On the way from Adams Peak to Nuwara Eliya we passed 2 beautiful waterfalls, which are located at the Kotmale River.
The Devon Waterfall is with 97m height one of the highest waterfalls on Sri Lanka. It is named after an English coffee pioneer named Devon, who grew coffee right there in the area.
Also very impressive was the St. Clairs waterfall. It is one of the widest waterfalls here on Sri Lanka and is also called the "Little Niagara of Sri Lanka".
Both waterfalls are among the 6 waterfalls affected by the Upper Kotmale Hydropower Project, a dam that feeds into the third largest power station in Sri Lanka. This project has been a very big impact on the environment. This can be seen on the waterfalls by the reduced amount of water they carry.
